Getting All the Credit
With the Memorial Day holiday fast approaching, the Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) is allowing all of Connecticut's liquor wholesalers to make deliveries of its alcoholic products through Friday, June 2, 2023 as long as the product is ordered no later than May 31.
By law and regulation, alcohol products must be delivered in the same calendar month that they are ordered in.
On rare occasions, however, DCP may authorize an extension of deliveries into the next month for good cause. In this instance, DCP noted "the unique nature of the calendar, namely that the Memorial Day holiday falls on May 29th, which is only three days before the end of the month, (2) the anticipated high volume of last-minute orders due to the holiday, and (3) the anticipated increase on holiday traffic congestion that will reduce delivery times"
This approval pertains to the delivery of products only and not to the placing of orders. All orders must still be placed by May 31, 2023.
Retailers are reminded that the period of credit starts on the date of delivery, not the date that the order is placed nor necessarily the first day of the month. Retailers will have thirty (30) days to pay the wholesaler for the product delivered.
