Passion. Experience. Diligence. Knowledge.

Meet Jack Suchy, owner of The JJS Consulting Group.

Serving Connecticut for more than 19 years as the state’s Director of Liquor Control and chief regulator of the Liquor Control Act and its regulations, John “Jack” Suchy speaks the language of the Connecticut liquor industry and has the subject matter knowledge to assist you as you navigate the regulatory and licensing process. Today, it is time to share our expertise and insights on “best practices” of the hospitality industry, alcohol permitting processes for suppliers, wholesalers, and retailers, and legislative initiatives impacting Connecticut’s liquor industry.

Jack has made a career out of protecting people in the state of Connecticut over the past 40 plus years. Starting as a beat copy at the Norwalk Police Department in 1975, he steadily advanced through the ranks, ultimately becoming a captain in charge of the uniformed and investigative units within the department. His 27 year career prepared him for the next stage of his professional life.

During Jack’s 19 years as the Liquor Control Division Director of the state’s Department of Consumer Protection, he was responsible for the licensing and regulatory enforcement of Connecticut’s liquor industry. This industry has more than 8,000 permits, 40,000 brands and SKUs. Regulatory enforcement was key; for example, in one year, more than 1,125 investigations were conducted resulting in the suspension of 90 permits and over 180 permits were assessed civil penalty fines and settlements in excess of $2,290,000.

Education played a major role and indeed started his trajectory into serving the public and is at the core of his values. Having graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s College in 1973, and later becoming an officer, Jack commuted into NYC taking masters degree courses at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Throughout his police career, he prided himself as a trainer of police officers and as a lecturer on the college level.

Jack believes that what can be avoided and what makes a creative business thrive is the passion that drives it. Choosing to specialize in a field means that you are completely devoted to it, that you will protect it as if it were your own.

I do my best in finding ways to say “yes” to clients’ ideas, and create solutions that allow them to move forward to achieve their goals within the confines of the Liquor Control Act and its regulations. - Jack Suchy
